Please enjoy some of our first semester
success stories at Lehigh Acres Middle School. This year our
schedule permitted us to have all 6th graders and
almost every 7th grader in a math class every day.
This year we were able to make sure every student was scheduled
into a reading class
We implemented AR- Quarter 1 we
had 10 students with over 100 AR points. Second quarter we had
30 students with over 100 points. Our high AR score was 399.7
points!!! Quarter 1 we had 85 students with 20 or more AR
points. Second quarter we had 213 students with 20 or more AR
points. Students scoring over 100 points have breakfast with the
Principal, 50 AR points will get our students an AR shirt, 25
points will get them a doughnut and if they make their AR goal
they have a jeans or a causal day.
LAMS implemented PBS which
stands for Positive Behavior Support. Our goal is to make sure
we spend a lot of time on the 95% that are doing the right
thing. Students doing what they are supposed to be doing get a
bear paw. Every two weeks, we have random drawings for prizes
for 10 or more students at each grade level.
For students going over and
above they receive a “Positive Referral”. This positive referral
enables them to have lunch and “Pizza with the Principal”
Middle School Student for a
Day- Harns Marsh Elementary, Lehigh Elementary, Sunshine
Elementary, G. Weaver Hipps Elementary visited LAMS to
experience middle school. Students arrived at 10:00, groups of
six students visited numerous core and elective classrooms for
10 minutes and met with our guidance staff to hear about our
middle school academic expectations. Mirror Lakes
Elementary will be visiting our school in late January. Our
students did an incredible job as tour guides and hospitality
hosts.
LAMS was visited three times by
AVID state and national personnel. It is our goal to become an
AVID National Demonstration School. There are lots of
wonderful things happening in our classrooms.
Mrs. Cherbini graduated another
class of student Peer Mediators to assist with peer conflicts
Mr. Austin Hardy started a math
team and entered our students into two competitions. Our team
finished 8th out of 20 plus teams in one of the
competitions.
Mr. Gordon Hardy wrote a grant
that was accepted by Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. Mr. Hardy
was given approximately 13,000 dollars to purchase instruments
and instrument repair.
Mr. Gordon Hardy and Mr.
Gerstner combined for our first Dinner Theater. Band, chorus,
and dram collaborated to put on a magnificent musical. Dinner
was also served before the show. Our Winter band concert was a
huge success. Our band and chorus performed at the airport- we
received lots of positive comments on how well behaved they
were, how wonderful they sounded, and how impressive they
looked.
LAMS had numerous students
voted All County in Band and Chorus
Deputy Aponte implemented our
Cadet Program this year. Students meet twice a week, they are
involved in many of our important school activities, and they
post and retire the flags in front of the school every morning
and afternoon.
Mr. Cherbini and our science
department had a record number of participants this year in our
science fair. We had three students in the district science fair
Our CROP and Scholars Clubs had
a very impressive Induction and was well attended
Our 8th grade
students had a school trip to NASA, our 6th
graders had a school trip to MOSI, and our 7th
graders will have a class trip to Sea World.
We have student art hung up
throughout the building
Each morning, we have 5 to 7 of our AVID
students transported to Sunshine Elementary to tutor their low
performing students.
