FUSE Studios Off to a Great Start

50 percent

Ellie Vertrees learns how to electrify cloth in her FUSE Studios Class. Lehigh Acres Middle School is the sole site in the district that offers that Maker Space class where students get to select one of 26 challenges in which to participate. The program was designed and is still supported by Northwestern University.

FUSE challenges are designed around student interests in music, design, and pop culture and are embedded with STEAM practices. These interests serve as a hook, motivating students to progress through challenges and, in the process, discover new STEAM-related interests.
Every seventh grader at Lehigh Acres Middle School is offered FUSE Studios as an elective.

Principal's Message

Greeting Bruins!

I am super excited for this school year.  Last year was amazing!  We maintained our school grade.  We hosted our first AVID Demonstration Showcase.  We were a host site for both Cambridge and Leader In Me Trainings.  We offered Geometry, a high school course, for the first time, with 100% EOC pass rate.  In addition, we received a multimillion dollar grant to become a STEAM Magnet School.  Although we accomplished a lot last year, this year we are turning up the heat, as we are Full STEAM Ahead.

The 2018-2019 school year will be a steamy one for Lehigh Acres Middle School, as we are prepared to hit the ground running as a STEAM Magnet School.  A team of teachers and I attended FUSE Studio training in Chicago! FUSE Studio is one of the new STEAM courses we will offer scholars that will ignite and nurture STEAM exploration through innovative challenges in a studio environment.  LAMS is the only school in south Florida to offer this ground-breaking course.  This year promises to be rewarding for every scholar as they will be participate in STEAM infused classes that involves critical thinking, collaboration and thoughtful dialogue in which students exchange ideas and discuss ways to problem-solve.   Some students might approach STEAM with excitement or curiosity, while others might be more timid or apprehensive.  Whatever the approach, our amazing teachers are ready to support and guide them.  Not only does a STEAM framework teach students how to think critically, problem solve and use creativity, it prepares students for STEAM related careers and our goal is to prepare ALL scholars to be college and career ready!

To our phenomenal Parents, we have planned more activities to involve you in your scholar’s educational experience at Lehigh Acres Middle School.  I hope you will join us, as we know that students with involved parents earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, and show improved behavior.  I encourage you to attend our SAC meetings, which are the 1st Tuesday of every month.  With your support, I know this will be a fantastic year.

I look forward to an engaging and rewarding school year with you and your scholar.

Neketa Watson, Extremely Proud Principal
